Alison Newhouse - Vice President
Alison Newhouse is now retired after spending 22 years working for the ACT Department of Education as a School Secretary. After moving to Canberra in 1996 from Darwin with her husband and two children she continued her first love of playing Hockey and represented both the Northern Territory and the ACT in their respective Women’s Veterans Hockey teams. After many dedicated years she decided that a change was needed and performed in her first show with Queanbeyan Players in 2006. This first experience stayed with her for many years before returning in 2011 to do her second show with Queanbeyan Players and has been a part of this wonderful family ever since. Joining the committee in 2013 was something that she had never thought about before but was interested in seeing the other side of the process. She was Vice President in 2019, President from 2020 - 2022 and is again the current Vice President.
Benjamin Martin - Treasurer
Ben is a dedicated theatre and arts professional, working full-time as Business Manager of Warehouse Circus Inc. in Chifley ACT, along with managing the finances of QP as Treasurer, a role they have held since 2020. A member of the Institute of Community Directors Australia (ICDA), Ben has worked with theatre companies including Lieder Theatre Company, Rocky Hill MTC, the Argyle Society, Canberra Philo, Ickle Pickle Productions, and Queanbeyan Players, whether onstage as a performer, or backstage doing various roles, since starting their theatre journey in 2008.
Ben has extensive experience in bookkeeping and finance, along with business management and production management. From a theatre perspective, Ben has worked on nearly 50 shows in 15 years, performing locally, interstate, and internationally, but primarily Ben believes in creating wonderful theatre work that changes peoples lives - a goal that is achieved with each production.
Rachel Laloz - Secretary
Rachel's first show with Queanbeyan Players was in 2012, and little did 17 year old Rachel know that 10 years later she would be secretary for the whole company. She has been working backstage around the Canberra theatre scene for over a decade, and recently progressed to stage manager with Queanbeyan Players for their last six shows, with a front of house appearance made in 2022 as well. Rachel has a substantial understanding off all things backstage, and continues to reiterate, no matter how much you want to believe it, there is no such thing as a magic chair!
By day, Rachel works as a mortgage broker, at the forefront of all the drama of the banking world, but by night she prefers to stay out of sight dealing with all the drama of the theatre world.
