Music Director
The music director’s role is to oversee all the music in the production – both vocal and instrumental – although some productions also have a separate vocal director. This includes overseeing the cast’s learning of the score, including ensuring balance between the vocal parts; convening an orchestra and rehearsing with them – initially with the orchestra alone and then with cast and orchestra together – and conducting the orchestra during performances. The music director is also responsible for maintaining the show’s overall tempo.
