On a lonely island not far off the coast of Australia during World War II, love blooms between a young nurse and a secretive Frenchman who’s being courted for a dangerous military mission. Can a girl from Little Rock find happiness with a mature French planter she got to know one enchanted evening away from the military hospital where she is a nurse? Or should she just wash that man out of her hair?  And what about the ‘younger than springtime’ Liat?  Will she find happiness in the arms of Lieutenant Cable?  Or is middle America circa 1944 likely to raise its racist and intolerant head and remind our lovers that there are certain things you just have to be carefully taught?

From the team that brought you My Fair Lady in 2015, Queanbeyan Players proudly presents Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific!  Wrapped up in a glorious sunset of sensuous romance and secretive missions, and based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novels (Tales of the South Pacific) by James A Michener, this 1949 Broadway musical bursts onto the stage with a blaze of memorable musical moments.  With songs such as ‘There is Nothing like a Dame’, ‘Cockeyed Optimist’ and ‘I’m in Love with a Wonderful Guy’, you’ll be sure to go home humming all the familiar tunes!  But perhaps you’ll also go home with a deep sense of the social commentary that the show makes, dealing with issues that are as raw and relevant today as they were in 1949.

Auditions for this magical piece of musical theatre will take place on December 10th and 11th with a dance call and call-backs (if needed) on December 12th, so start practicing those vocal exercises, brush up on your dancing skills and take a look at the 1958 movie starring Mitzi Gaynor and Rossano Brazzi to grab your inspiration!

Book an audition and receive audition materials by contacting Janette Humphrey:  janette@webone.com.au

If auditioning for a lead/main role, you will be required to sing a song (or two) and read from section/s of the script.  All materials will be supplied.  There are two non-singing roles in which case you will just read – see below. Also, see below for special requirements for the role of Liat.  For chorus auditions please sing a song of your choice.
